Stonerside

Stonerside

Al Beyer

Hopelands Gardens135 Dupree Place

This horse was named for Stonerside’s parent stable in Paris, Kentucky which was named after Stoner Creek that runs through the property and the stone wall that surrounds it.
Back in the 1800’s, many Kentucky farm fences were built by stonemasons from fieldstone and a fieldstone fence encircles much of Stonerside’s property. Stonerside Stable has produced such well known horses as Congaree, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and has been inducted into Aiken’s Thoroughbred Hall of Fame. The stone-like surface of the design is a mixture of artist gesso mixed with sand and washes of paint.

Check out special edition horseplay jewelry by local silver smith, Danielle LoMonaco, in the Gallery Shop of Aiken Center for the Arts.
